GTYC Friday News Round Up - June 6

I'm going to start writing a brief update on the Club's progress every Friday. Some weeks will be more informative then others depending on our rate of progress, some weeks will be pretty light on content. At least we'll all be on the same page moving forward.

Racing

o The summer racing series kicked off on Wednesday night. There were a few hiccups with the Race Committee and the starting sequences. Last Wednesday was the new RC's first night solo, so some hiccups are to be expected. Charlie and Scott (Race Chairs) and Eric Lind (Resident US Sailing Judge and RC Guru) are in the process of making sure things go smoothly next week. The Club is outfitting the RC with several items they need that we lost in the fire.

o Laser and Interlake racing is also back into full swing. Both these fleets have outstanding participation and leadership and seem to be growing exponentially every year. If you have any interest in racing in either of these fleets contact Jamie Stuursma (Laser) or Bob Sagan (Interlake).

Grounds

o The main dock is finally in, and looks great. I have contacted Tom Donnelly, the Club's sub-surface bottom lands technician to remove the old h-brackets that held up the old main dock. We as amateurs tried to jet a set out in the fall and failed miserably, so I figured it was time to hire a pro and get those out once and for all. Hopefully any funds we get from recycling them with offset the expense to get them out.

o Big thanks to Bill Buchbinder, Dave and Jessica Gerber for attending to the Club's lawn and grounds. They also were able to get the cover on the Club's awning which now resides on the front lawn. (Should be a good vantage point to watch the construction process) The Hughey Lawn Service (Matt's Son's) are going to be handling those duties from here on out.

o There are two little blue rooms that have been placed in the NW corner of the Club's lot for your convince.

Building Update

o Doug Wipperman and I met with Chris Branson (the Clubs Insurance Agent) late last week to get some direction as how to finalize the Club's claim. We came away from that meeting optimistic that we could be seeing some funds within the next couple of weeks. We are also in the process of finalizing the spreadsheet with the details of the Club's contents for that portion of the insurance claim.

o We have received our land use permit from Elmwood Township to begin the demolition process. In addition the hazardous materials survey has been started. The soil erosion application, and request for demolition permit are in process.

o There will be a survey coming out next week to the membership, both online and in the mail. These results will give us some idea of how the Membership want's to move forward with a new building. One of the items holding up the demolition process is the fact that we don't know quite what to tear down and what to leave without a plan as to what is going to be built back. It would be a huge misstep to demo something that we might need. Doug is working with the two contractors who have bid on the job (hired by the insurance company) to determine the best course of action.

o Bud Cline and Dan Spyhalski have been working hard on finding us a temporary home. There hasn't been anything that fits the bill yet, but there are a couple of good prospects. We should know more next week at this time.
