Racing
The Club hosted one of its several distance races on Saturday. The conditions couldn't have been better. South breeze 10-15+ Knots, the eight yachts that participated had some great runs down the bay. Everyone had a good time. Congratulations to Forbes of the Yacht Ahyadooin'(Spin) and Richard Sutton of Screaming Baby (JaM).
The second summer series race on Wednesday evening saw some great conditions and some really competitive racing in each fleet. It seems like as the weather gets nicer each fleet grows a couple of boats The race committee did a great job of selecting the proper course per wind direction, setting the line and getting the race off on time. Nice Job!
We had a great crowd after the race at the Tuscan Bistro. The manager was ecstatic with our presents. He was expecting a crowd of 30-40 people and when 100+ walked through the doors he admits they were overwhelmed. Next week he said they would be staffed up and ready for us. He said thanks for being patient with them, they did they're best with what they had to work with. In addition to the normal bar fare, he is going to be providing a buffet for a small fee. Thank Charley Meyer for setting this up for the Club.
Temporary Home
Bud Cline and I met with the managers of two potential temporary sites to hang our burgee in the Elmwood corridor this week. The Board should be making that decision about where the Club's temporary home will be soon. After the board makes the decision about which site will work best for our needs and budget it will take 5-6 weeks to get our liquor license transferred to that location. We will most likely need some volunteers to help move us in and get us up and running. I'll keep you posted.
Building
Doug Wipperman went back through the two quotes the insurance company requested from Seeco and Archer Contracting. As I understand the process it works like a negotiation, back and forth until we agree on the accuracy of their bids. Time consuming, and frustrating to say the least. When we do finally get to an accurate number it goes to the insurance adjuster. Then the adjuster has to agree to the figure (which ever is lowest of course) and we move forward.
Survey
The much talked about member survey has been completed; Steve Wyckoff and crew are working out the best way to get it on the website at this point.
Docks
Tom Donley was able to dislodge the former main dock pieces from the lake bed in front of the club. He had to use a combination of both air bags and jet pump to get them out. I spoke to Tom afterwards, he mentioned that it was one of the more challenging sub-surface jobs he had done in some time.
The water levels are continually rising it appears. The North dock was installed about a month ago with about a foot of clearance and is now almost to the point of being submerged. The dock czars (Jay Kraft and Than Dykstra) are in the process of putting a team together to raise that dock a couple of feet.
Social
Sarah has been busy working on getting our public liquor licenses lined up for this summer. We finalized the site plan this morning and worked on some other details. She was on her way to Suttons Bay this morning to get the bonds lined up and the signature of the Sherriff.
Dan Spyhalski and crew are putting the final pieces in place for the Hound Dog Regatta. This year we are going to need some extra volunteers due to our situation. So be ready!
Our former club manager is turning the big 3. 0. next week, so if you see her around town be sure to wish her a happy birthday! Her name begins with a (J) and ends with a (essica).
