GTYC Friday News Round-Up July 11, 2008
Progress continues towards demolition and settling our insurance claim. Yesterday Doug Wipperman presented Chris Branson with a rather detailed document outlining our claim request based on our content inventory and the two quotes from Archer Contracting and Seeco Construction. Chris was impressed with the level of detail and thought that went into the proposal. That document is being forwarded to the Auto Owners Claims Department for review. If all goes well we should hear back from them sometime next week.
The BOD has decided to start the demolition on the existing building. The necessary permits and utility companies (10 individual entities) have been contacted this week and applications have been made in several instances to start the demolition. Our goal is to start the demolition the first week in August.
We have arrived at a point in our design and layout where we can start putting the construction out for bid. The design/layout was based on your survey responses and feedback from several independent construction consultants. These plans and specs will be sent out for bid, when those bids come back there may be some fine tuning to do and or cut backs. As I understand the process, ask for everything up front and work back rather then vice versa.
There was a hardy attempt to increase the height of the North dock. However it was determined that this wasn't possible without dismantling the dock and re-assembling it. At this point we are going to try and get by with it; if it does become submerged we'll take more drastic action at that point.
The Moorings and Storage Committee would like to remind all members that in order to store, launch and moor a vessel at the GTYC you must be a full member in good standing. There are several vessels currently on the Club grounds that need to have storage fees paid or they're owned by social members. Please respect the Bi-Laws of our Club and rectify this situation before more drastic measures have to be taken. If you have any questions please contact Jim VanStratt 935-3830 or Scott Reavely 231-357-0803 for more information.
The Club Bar will be open tomorrow starting at 4:00pm. Sarah will be serving all night through the Cherry Festival Fireworks. Please come on down and enjoy the “best seat in the house” for this great event.
Have a great weekend!
