GTYC Friday News Round-Up 7/18/2008
The wheels are in motion to start the demolition. All of the proper permits have been applied for, we have contacted utility companies and environmental surveys are complete. Within the next couple of weeks all of these items should be approved and we can finally remove our old building from its foundation.
We haven't heard back from the insurance company yet on the status of our claim proposal, hopefully we hear something next week. Due to the amount of the claim it's understandable that it will take a little longer to process.
The proposed building design and floor plan are up on our website for your viewing pleasure. There are going to be slight modifications to these plans as we move forward due to construction methods etc., however the form will be very similar to what is shown. Doug is working with a couple of construction engineers on the thousands of details that we will require when we put it out to bid. Items like the number of electrical outlets, type of doors, quality of windows, siding, roof material etc. will be described in great detail. This document will be given to the contractors so we get them all bidding on the same thing. Those bids will allow us to compare apples to apples and will help us make our decision on which company to go with.
Wednesday night challenged our PHRF sailing fleet to sail in little to no breeze. Light winds are the most difficult for any sailor to compete in, and are thought to be much tougher then heavy air. It really challenges the skipper and the crew to use a combination of weight placement, sail inventory and intuition to keep the vessel moving. It's good to have these challenging races every once in a while to keep us sharp. Hopefully not too often though!
Don't forget… the 100 th running of Chicago to Mackinaw is taking place this weekend starting on Saturday and running through Tuesday. The GTYC has an impressive number of members competing this year. Every competitor will be able to be tracked as they make progress up Lake Michigan via a satellite-tracking device. Log on to: http://charthorizon.com/races/2008_chicago_mackinac/htdocs/ to follow the action. The forecast is shaping up to provide for an exiting race this year.
Good Luck to skippers and crews of: Ahyadooin', Driven 2, Kokomo, Liberty, Relentless, Runaway, Spyke, Buzz (GRYC) Flash Gordon 5 (Chicago YC), and Padawan 2 (Charlevoix YC) Be safe, have fun, sail fast!
See you at the Pink Pony,
